In March 2022, the CNR of Pisa organized several meetings to present the LIFE SUBSED project to interested parties, who can play a pivotal role in the continuation of the project and the exploitation of the proposed solutions.
Below are some photos.
Grazia Masciandaro and Claudia Fiorentino, Purification Interventions, Sludge, Energy Efficiency and PNRR section for Acquedotto Pugliese
Grazia Masciandaro and Claudia Marchetti, head of the “Public works, civil protection and environment” service of the Municipality of Calci (Pisa, Italy)
Grazia Masciandaro and Salvatore Pisano, CEO of Navicelli Srl
The group of researchers from the Pisa branch of the National Research Council (CNR) had the pleasure of welcoming Maria Chiara Carrozza, current president of the CNR and former Italian Minister of Education, University and Research.
The President Messa also met the team of researchers involved in the LIFE SUBSED project. During the visit various fronts for dialogue were opened, in particular on active projects and ongoing research activities but also on future developments, also in light of the new public investments planned with the Italian PNRR.
The CNR-IRET of Pisa participated in the RemTech Expo 2021, which took place in Ferrara from 20 to 24 September 2021.
RemTech is an international event specialized in the protection and sustainable development of the territory; remediation of contaminated sites, coasts and ports; hydrogeological instability; climate change; seismic risk; urban regeneration and sustainable chemical industry.
The researchers of CNR-IRET presented the objectives, actions and results of the LIFE SUBSED project to the visitors of the fair, also sharing the promotional material prepared for the occasion.
The poster presented by the CNR at its stand can be downloaded here.
The SedNet international conference entitled “Sediment Challenges and Opportunities due to Climate Change and Sustainable Development” this year took place online, from 28 June to 2 July (the program is available here).
The conference was attended by both the team of researchers from the CNR-IRET of Pisa and the team of researchers from the CREA-OF of Pescia.
During the event the groups gave some speech and presented posters relating to the objectives, actions and results of the LIFE SUBSED project.
Dr. Cristina Macci, from the CNR-IRET team, held the presentation entitled “Recovery and environmental recycling of sediments: CNR-IRET Pisa experience“, summarising all the projects in which the team has participated over the years focused on the treatment and the reuse of dredged sediments. By clicking on the preview below you can access and download the presentation in pdf!
The CREA-OF team prepared for the event an oral presentation and a poster about to the LIFE SUBSED project.
In the video below, Dr. Stefania Nin of the CREA-OF team holding the presentation entitled “Developing pattern in Prunus laurocerasus grown on sediment enriched substrates (LIFE SUBSED 17 ENV/IT/000347)” (available here in pdf format).
In the video below, also Dr. Stefania Nin of the CREA-OF team illustrates the contents of the poster entitled “Quality assessment in wild strawberry fruit and basil leaf from plants cultivated on dredged remediated sediment (SUBSED LIFE17 ENV/IT/000347)” (available herein pdf format).
Dr. Masciandaro presented the LIFE SUBSED project during the day entitled “Phytoremediation of contaminated land and phytotreatement of polluted water: successfull case studies” (here the specific program).
The presentation shown during the intervention entitled “Phytotreatment techniques for dredging sediments: the LIFE AGRISED and LIFE SUBSED experiences” can be downloaded here.
The CNR-IRET group of Pisa presented the LIFE SUBSED project during the XI International Symposium of Environmental Engineering, which was held in Turin from 29 June to 2 July (the program is available here). For the occasion, the group presented an abstract entitled “Landfarming to valorize phytoremediated sediments for their reuse in nursery “LIFE SUBSED LIFE17 ENV/IT/000347””.
Together with the abstract, a poster (downloadable here) was also presented, which systematically illustrates the process and the results of the landfarming carried out during the LIFE SUBSED project.
During the visit of Dr. Cristina Macci, CNR researcher, to the Environment, Soil and Land-Use Department (Teagasc, Johnstown Castle, Wexford, Ireland) from 1 to 8 December 2019, the activities of the LIFE Subsed project has been presented to Simon Parker (Postdoc), Amanuel Gebremichael (Postdoc) and David Wal (Senior Research officer). The objectives, the main actions and the expected results of the project have been described.
Furthermore, the issue of dredging sediments and the different possibilities of re-using decontaminated sediments in various environmental sectors was addressed. During the meetings the process that will be undertaken during the project for the insertion of sediments in the list of agronomic substrates of the Italian legislation (Legislative Decree 75/2010) was described.
The LIFE Subsed project was present (thanks to the participation of the beneficiaryCNR of Pisa) at BRIGHT 2019 – The night of researchers in Tuscany (here is the detail for the city of Pisa), now a classic annual appointment to make citizens aware of the excellence of Italian research.
During the day, objectives and expected results of the LIFE Subsed project has been exposed to the crowd that took part in the event by going to the stand of the CNR of Pisa.
RemTech is the most specialized event on contaminated sites remediation and territory protection and requalification. The program focuses every year the most topical and interesting themes: regulatory evolution, characterization, risk analysis, remediation technologies, research, innovation, monitoring, environmental controls, industry, sustainability.
During the event, the general activities of the LIFE Subsed project has been described at the CNR stand, as well as its objectives, its main actions and the expected results. Particular attention has been paid to illustrating the problems inherent in the re-use of sediments, but relating them to their potential in different environmental sectors.
Between 26 and 29 March 2019 the course “Water management across agro-ecosystems” has been held in Pisa at the CNR IRET headquarters (here the list of participants is available), as part of the “Springesemester in water and environmental management” organized by “UniLaSalle” of Beauvais in France. During the event, information material for the LIFE Subsed project has been distributed to the students.
